Here is some good stuff reprinted with the permission of Marvin Jansen marvin@wellnessforworkers.com
"There’s no easier moment to kick-start your healthy eating plan in order to look and feel your best on the beach or at the pool than when fruits and vegetables hit their peak. Taking advantage of nature’s sweetest, most succulent offerings reprograms your body to work the way it’s supposed to function. Here’s how to make it happen:
1. Count colors instead of calories. Every category of fruit and vegetable contains hundreds of unique, healthy substances. Try to eat at least five different fruits or vegetables each day, in a range of colors. Your shopping cart should have as many colors as a box of crayons.
2. Eat three main meals, plus snacks, so you're never hungry. When you push your body into starvation mode, it will begin to store fat. Your metabolism will slow down
3. Have a fiber-rich breakfast. Toss fruit into your cereal. Make sure the cereal contains at least 3 grams of fiber per serving. Switch to whole-grain bread. Smear some all-natural fruit or nut spread on your toast.
4. Bring home fire-extinguishing foods. Every refrigerator needs good-for-you foods that put out starvation fires. Blueberries, peaches, cherry tomatoes, celery, and other ready-to-eat produce options simplify the snacking and encourage eating good-for-you foods.
5. Remember that you are in control of your nutrition. You choose the health and tone of your body by your food intake choices. Take care of the living organism in which you reside. Be good to the body and it will be good to you."
So simple and true!

I was looking at the barefoot running forum (that I subscribe to) and saw this guy's link.
http://www.runblogger.com/2010/09/changing-running-form-my-journey-to.html
I looked at all of his videos and did not see a major "breakthrough" in his technique, like the breakthrough people have in my clinics.
On a similar note, I am very excited about the before and after video that is now on the front page of my site. Now that is a major change in running form.....

Tony Mook ran into me on the hike and bike trail, and good things have come from it!
He received instruction from me in POSE and he published an article about POSE in the Seton newsletter www.goodhealth.com
Great writing from Tony! http://www.goodhealth.com/articles/2010/03/19/i_forgot_how_to_run_pose_method

Just finished 2 very successful mini clinics. One at the Runtex location downtown and the other at Crossfit in Georgetown. Here is a great article in the Austin American Statesman about POSE and me
http://www.statesman.com/sports/pose-running-technique-helps-runners-knee-pain-364953.html.
That should help get more people running correctly and without injury!

There are so many exciting things happening! Here is an article which is posted on the Runtex front page!!
Injury Free Running Now!
We were meant to run. There are so many things about running that are great. The way you feel while the blood is pumping through your veins
- feeling alive. Being outdoors - often in nature. Being social - running with a group. And of course, the running "high" when you are done.
Unfortunately, the facts tell a different story. One fact is that 80% of all runners end up injuring themselves. Like myself, some of the runners rehabilitate the injury, only to turn around and reinjure themselves by running again.
It wasn't until I learned of the POSE method of running, that things drastically changed; my years of knee pain disappeared the day I learned POSE.
If you have been watching the news recently, or have read the book "Born to Run", you will know that people are starting to get smarter about running.
There is a movement afoot (pun intended), which is back to running the Natural Way. The Natural Way is running on the balls of your feet with little or no
shoe in between you and the ground. Personally, I only run with bare feet when I run on the beach during Summer time. However, I do run on a minimum padding running shoe so that my feet have the freedom to move naturally (the shoes only weigh 4 ounces; standard running shoes weigh at least twice as much). Having said all of this, it is crucial to work with someone to show you how to run correctly.
The Pose Method inspired me to helps others in their running as it did for me. That's why I decided to become a certified POSE coach.
Now, I do what I love (aside from my full-time job with IBM) while I get paid for it. Win/win for me and for my students!
In my POSE clinic, I will video-tape your running to give you immediate feedback on your current style. Then, I will show you how to run correctly using the POSE method. This will cultivate an immediate awareness of how most of us put the brakes on while we are running. The common feedback, I have received from my students when they first run Pose, is that the method feels lighter, easier, faster and more fun.
The clinics take 4 hours. To register for a clinic, please go to my website. I am committed to make the clinics fun and engaging.

1/30/09 Barefoot running is really making a splash around the country. Someone said there was an NPR radio show about it so I just checked and sure enough. Listen to it here!
The cool thing about learning POSE is that you learn the correct way to run barefoot without going out and hurting yourself! I only run barefoot on the beach. However, I do wear a very minimal shoe, the H Street by Puma. I have owned the same pair for 3 years, put thousands of miles on them, and they still look and ride great! Why? Because I am very easy on the ground and on my feet and legs. So the shoe has any easy time of it. No need to replace the shoes every 500 miles like most runners do.
1/27/10 I am super jazzed about my last weekend's clinic! I am a little surprised that people GET IT so well, so quick, and the immediate difference it makes. I know it was great for me. I am really happy about that.
I am seeing reports about barefoot running which are very exciting.

I know landing on the ball of the foot is low impact since I run in a minimal shoe and run barefoot when I can.
It is great to have more and more science to back it up.

I just signed up for the Barefoot Ted's web site
http://groups.google.com/group/huaraches
I believe he has a couple of web sites. I highly recommend this book, Born to Run. The book is a blessing to this world for a lot of good reasons. It opens hearts, and hopefully opens some minds about running.
You can buy it on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Born-Run-Hidden-Superathletes-Greatest/dp/0307266303/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1
You can get autographed copies on Ted's site.

I love that people will listen more openly about changing to a barefoot type of running. I believe the book can be credited for some of that.

I just finished reading the book "Born to Run". I highly recommend this book to everyone who likes exciting stories and especially to runners.
Here is a link about the book:
http://www.posetech.com/library/pp-NYT-0001.html
One of the amazing things mentioned in the book is that the more you spend on a running shoe, the more the chance that it will hurt you. So that means, the more shoe, rubber, material, and technology you put in the between your foot and the ground, the more you get away from "pure" running.
I consider POSE to be one of the purist ways to run. Period.
